Loose Change Founder & Head Coach | Gisborne, New Zealand
____________
Kouma brings a wealth of experience and a deep passion for physical and mental health and professional rugby league. He began his journey at just 14 years old, signing with the One NZ Warriors, and celebrated his first Grand Final victory against the Brisbane Broncos at age 20. Over the next decade, Kouma built a successful career playing professionally across New Zealand, Australia, and France.
Alongside his sporting pursuits, Kouma dedicated time to mentoring and coaching young people, working and volunteering with tamariki and rangatahi from primary through to high school. His passion for supporting youth, combined with his sporting expertise and life experience, has been instrumental in shaping and delivering the Loose Change Programme.
When he's not at the local kura, on the rugby field or supporting other kaupapa, you'll likely find Kouma fishing, diving, and enjoying time with his partner Sam and their three beloved tamariki.
Loose Change Programme Coordinator | Gisborne, New Zealand
____________
Sam is deeply passionate about the well-being of our rangatahi and tamariki. With a strong background in the arts, she brings a unique perspective on the connection between creativity, mental health, and spirituality. This insight is woven into the fabric of the Loose Change Programme, which she co-designs and manages alongside Kouma Samson.
In addition to shaping the programme's direction, Sam oversees all administrative tasks and scheduling, ensuring everything runs smoothly behind the scenes.
When she’s not keeping Kouma on track at mahi or raising their whānau you’ll likely find Sam immersed in her own creative practice—painting, drawing, and exploring new artistic expressions.
